Achter De Schermen (Behind The Screens) is a special project that comprises a curated selection of instrumental theater music crafted by Ton Scherpenzeel between 1984 and 2023 for Dutch entertainer, Youp van 't Hek's live performances. This collection showcases the finest instrumental theater music underscores, and includes original live recordings alongside meticulously re-recorded and rearranged studio versions. Featuring Ton Scherpenzeel, Ton Snijders, Rens van der Zalm, and special guest performances, the project transcends genres, genders, cultures, and language boundaries. Unlike Ton's previous solo album, Virgin Grounds," this project predominantly highlights 'real' acoustic instruments. The May 1, 2024 release coincides with the retirement/farewell tour of Youp van 't Hek.
